Vitamin E refers to the name given to a group of compounds and oil-soluble antioxidants. There are eight different types and the most typical forms are d-alpha-tocopherol, d-alpha-tocopheryl acetate, dl-alpha tocopherol, and dl-alpha tocopherol acetate.
There are various benefits of Vitamin E which can treat skin disorders and repair the skin too. It assists in cellular restoration from sun damage and helps in healing scars and burns. As an antioxidant, it prevents oxidative damage to cells by combatting free radicals. Free radicals aim to become stable and by doing so, seize electrons from skin proteins and connective tissues. Vitamin E is able to prevent this from happening by fighting free radicals off the skin, in the form of daily environmental stressors including sun exposure and air pollution.
Additionally, vitamin E is also moisturising and helps to strengthen the skin’s barrier function. It’s also a natural anti-inflammatory, soothing, hydrating and serves as a moderately effective natural barrier to the sun.
If your skin is hypersensitive, oily or acne-prone, it’s not advisable to use vitamin E as it can cause irritation. Although it’s unlikely that vitamin E will cause harsh reactions, considering it’s already a naturally occurring substance found in the body and is known to relieve eczema. Vitamin E is an oil-soluble which means it’s moisturizing, and so is best adapted as a face cream.
