Christmas has come and gone and with the new year finally here, we are in the midst of indulging in all sorts of tasty treats and activities, whilst pretending we aren’t throwing the rulebook/ diet book/ routine book all out at the same time.
Taking care of your skin over the holiday period is something you either do or you don’t - some people are very capable of managing to take off their make up after a few too many mulled wines, however some of us take the holidays as an excuse to slack on skincare!
So we have eaten all the food and drank all the drinks, we're thinking about the gym but we haven’t made it yet. What can we do for our skin post-glutton to get us in the new year, new me swing of life?
First things first - you already know what’s coming.
DRINK. MORE. WATER
It is the simplest rule of all, however a lot of us tend not to follow it. Water is necessary for function but also for flushing out toxins. Therefore, if you don't drink enough water to flush these through your system, you are letting all of the toxins build up and sit stagnant in your system. Drink 4 glasses of water a day and see a difference in your skin in just 2 days (however, don't trick yourself into thinking a cup of coffee equals a glass of water - you still need your 4 glasses, plus a glass for each caffeinated or alcoholic drink you consume).
EAT. MORE GREENS
Winter may not be the best time for green or leafy veg, however it is the perfect time of year for a low-key cleanse. Get some veg together (most vegetables are good for your skin, however broccoli, leafy greens and peppers give your skin lots of nutrients). Steam your veg with a little seasoning and some fresh lemon juice and you've got yourself and skincare cleanse 101. Fresh produce is full of mineral and antioxidant compounds to help your body and skin function at its best. Keep up these good habits and notice a difference quickly!
Sleep is when our mind and body does its best regenerating - so it makes sense that the less sleep we get, the worse we look and feel for it. Sleep is something that we tend to not get a lot of this time of year. Between friends, family, parties and brunches, we don't prioritise sleep - and we definitely don't when work starts again. Consider how rested you feel when you wake up, and adjust your bed time accordingly!
CLEANSE. HYDRATE. PROTECT
As we’re ramping up for the classic new year, new me thing (that seems to last until mid-February and then gets forgotten about around March and replaced with new year same routine), follow this simple routine that is easy to stick with:
2019 feels like the year of the face! The last few years we’ve been doing body and we're looking fit (even post-Christmas) but 2019 is definitely about serving fresh-faced realness. It is easy to get overwhelmed when it comes to skincare but there are only 3 things you need to remember to follow! CLEANSE your skin morning and night with a good quality cleanse (dermoi! recommends iS Clinical's Cleansing Complex or Osmosis' Deep Clean Detox Cleanser). HYDRATE your skin correctly invest in 2 hydrating products, hyaluronic acid, vitamin c, vitamin b, antioxidants are all necessary items when it comes to deep hydration + noticeable results (dermoi! recommends iS Clinical's Hydra-Cool Serum and Osmosis' Quench). And PROTECT! I know its winter, but surely this can't be the first time you’ve heard UV is all around you! Your phone, your laptop, even from behind the clouds the UV is penetrative and affecting us. So in 2019 we are all going to wear sunscreen daily! Check out iS Clinical's Extreme Protect or Osmosis' Protect sheer SPF if you prefer something a little lighter.
