Naughty Festive Treats That Are Nice To Your Skin

 

We all end up gauging ourselves on food and drink at Christmas - living off rich foods, delicious treats and festive drinks our personal trainers would squirm at. But hey, look on the bright side – some of these naughty Christmas staples can help you to achieve healthy, glowing skin!

Cranberries: These delicious fruits have antiseptic and antimicrobial properties that help to prevent breakouts. They’re also rich in antioxidants, Vitamin C and B vitamins which are great for combating pesky free radicals. Eat plenty of these with your turkey this Christmas to fight off signs of aging and see your skin becoming brighter and more hydrated by the day.

Cinnamon: This gorgeous spice contains anti-fungal, antibacterial properties that help to combat acne-causing bacteria. It also contains antioxidants to help optimise skin health and combat environmental factors which can wreak havoc on your skin.

Mulled Wine: As mentioned above, your skin loves cinnamon, and the cinnamon in mulled wine has a powerful anti-inflammatory effect which can help to calm skin and restore radiance. Red wine is full of antioxidants that help to boost collagen and prevent fine lines and wrinkles – which means we can all enjoy a guilt-free glass or two this Christmas.     

Champagne: The drink of champions, champagne contains Resveratrol – a potent antioxidant that protects skin from free radical damage. Enjoy a glass to reap its age defying benefits or apply to your face topically to benefit from it as an effective natural toner to detoxify your skin and combat breakouts.  

Roasted Chestnuts: Chestnuts are packed to the brim full of nutrients, minerals and vitamins that can benefit skin, such as Vitamin C and folic acid. The fat-soluble B vitamins in chestnuts help to promote skin health and radiance, which we all need an extra boost of in the winter period – so go ahead, toast some chestnuts and enjoy them as a guilt-free snack.

It helps to boost your skin’s hydration levels, protect you from environmental factors including the sun and helps to prevent fine lines and wrinkles.

Cream: Although it’s absolutely scrumptious as a desert accompaniment or in soups, we all know cream has a very high fat content and should be enjoyed in moderation. The good news is, cream does have some skin health benefits. It includes Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) - which helps hair, nails and skin to grow healthily.

Oranges: Oranges are excellent natural exfoliators due to their high Citric Acid content – eating plenty of them can help to dry out acne to you with clearer, healthier skin. Oranges and other citrus fruits can also help to prevent acne scarring.

Figs:  A festive favourite, you’ll be pleased to know figs are full of nourishing vitamins, antioxidants and minerals that will leave your skin healthy and glowing. Eating plenty of these will leave you with a balanced skin tone and reduced signs of skin aging.

Coffee: Coffee can boost your skin’s overall health and radiance. It helps the body to get rid of toxins and helps the flow of water to the skin - leading to a clear, glowing complexion.
